David M. Smink, MD, FAAOS, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in sports injuries at Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group, PA, in Silver Spring, GermanTown, and Rockville, Maryland. He actively pursues the latest information and techniques in his field to bring his patients top-of-the-line, successful care.
Before joining the team at Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group in 2005, Dr. Smink graduated with honors from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. There, he was captain and MVP of the hockey team. He also earned the Manstein Family Award for excellence in pre-medical studies and athletics. He then attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. There, he served as vice president of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Society.
After finishing his education, Dr. Smink received specialty training in orthopaedic surgery as chief resident at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. Then, he moved to Massachusetts for a sports medicine fellowship at Harvard University Massachusetts General Hospital. It was during this fellowship that he was a team physician for the New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins, and the athletic teams at Harvard University.
At Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group, Dr. Smink frequently treats athletic injuries for adults and youth. He often performs joint replacements and arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder.
When he isn’t at any of the three clinics, Dr. Smink loves to coach youth hockey teams in the area.
